Co-generation or CHP is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat using a single fuel such as natural gas, and a variety of other fuels such as bagasses, coal, waste gas, liquid fuels (naphtha). In a conventional power plant, fuel is burnt in a boiler to generate high pressure steam. This steam is used to drive a turbine which in turn drives an alternator to produce electric power.
